Ruey-Wen Liu
Frank M. Freimann Procfessor Emeritus
Dr. Liu received his bachelor's (1954), master's (1955), and doctoral (1960) degrees, all in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana.
Research Interests: Dr. Liu's research interests encompass circuits and systems, signal processing and communication. He is currently pursuing the development of a new multiple access system for wireless communication, which could help increase capacity and eliminate interferences for wireless devices, such as cellular phones.
Rueywen Liu joined the Notre Dame faculty in 1960. He was later appointed the Frank M. Freimann Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1988, and became a Professor Emeritus in 2002. Dr. Liu has been invited as a Visiting Professor, at National Taiwan University, Spring, 1969; University of California at Berkeley, 1965-1966, 1977-1978, and 1984-1985; Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, 1992-93; Stanford University, Spring 2000; Technical University of Munich, Munich, Summer 2000, 2001 and 2002; and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Spring 2003. An IEEE life fellow, Dr. Liu has received the IEEE Society Technical Achievement Award (2001), the IEEE Third Millennium Medal (2000), the IEEE Society Golden Jubilee Medal (1999), Alexander von Humboldt Senior Research Award (1999), and IEEE Society Meritorious Service Award (1998). Recently, Professor Liu has been named the 2007 recipient of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Mac Van Valkenburg Circuits and Systems Award.
